The Burren Outdoor Education Centre is a public centre run under the aegis of Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board. It is a purpose built facility located in the heart of the Burren and provides a quality outdoor education service to people of all ages.
The Burren is an ideal outdoor classroom and the centre offers a wide range of activities and programmes all of which are designed to promote participation, effort and achievement. A wide range of educational outcomes can be achieved including the development of life skills and teamwork. In addition curricular requirements across a range of subjects i.e. PE, Geography, CSPE can also be achieved.
The centre staff, from administrators to tutors, are dedicated, enthusiastic, qualified and experienced at working with all age groups in the Burren. The centre is an education partner and activity provider with the Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark. We are a Leave No Trace (LNT) training centre and a member of the Burren Ecotourism Network (BEN) .
Facilities include hostel style accommodation for up to 56 people, a modern kitchen, meeting room, classroom, games room, drying room and showers. The centre is available as a hostel for self-programming groups such as An Gaisce, School retreats , environmental groups, youth clubs and social groups. Groups can also avail of camping on our grounds with use of our toilets and shower blocks. Activities can also be booked by camping groups making it an ideal venue for scout groups

Kilfinane Outdoor Education Centre is administered by Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board and approved by the Department of Education & Skills. We provide quality Outdoor Education Courses for School, Youth, Third Level & Adult Groups.
Our courses, which are delivered by highly qualified Instructors, range from half-day to week long residential programmes and we also provide modular programmes linking to the school PE curricula.
The challenges of Adventure sports offer opportunities for developing personal skills and traits such as teamwork, decision making, confidence and self esteem. Additionally the sports themselves offer opportunities to learn or improve navigation skills, co-ordination, fitness, water confidence and sport specific skills among others.
Our programmes aim to:
• Build confidence and self esteem through achievement of challenges and the development of new skills
• Develop life skills & traits such as navigation, teamwork, initiative & a ‘can do’ attitude.
• Increase awareness and understanding of the natural environment
• Develop adventure sports skills such as Kayaking, Mountain Biking or Climbing

• Gaisce, President Award Expeditions
• Adventure Sports Skills and Instructor Training
• Junior courses for individual children
• English as a Foreign Language for 2nd and 3rd Level groups
• Residential and non-residential programmes
Activities on offer at Kilfinane OEC include: Canoeing, Kayaking, Riverwalk, Raft Building, Mountain Biking, Rockclimbing, Abseiling, Indoor Climbing Wall, Hillwalking, Orienteering, Archery, Team Challenges and Campcraft.
Kilfinane OEC has an exemplary safety record and operates all activities according to Outdoor Education Ireland guidelines.
